All of the YR leadership are volunteers and give of their own time and money to support the program. We are always in need of help and involvement from our members, parents and individuals in the area. Please contact the YR Coordinator if you'd like to help out!
Area VII Asst. Young Riders Coordinator
Young Rider Representatives
The Area VII Young Riders have two Young Rider Representatives, one a Young Rider Representative and the other a Junior Young Rider Representative. These positions are identified as role models whom provide guidance to other area Young Riders and are available to address concerns, support and encouragement at the peer to peer level.
2018-2020 Area VII Junior Young Rider Representative
Olivia is a high school student from Corvallis, Oregon, and rides at Willamette Sport Horses. She has been eventing for 8 years and been a member of the Area VII Young Rider Program for 4 years. She has competed through the training level and participated in the YRAP Team Challenge 2017 as well. She is currently riding her own horse Jack, who will make his eventing debut in the 2018 season, and is also riding and competing her trainers’ horse Charlie, with big plans for the upcoming year. She’s always around at shows and Young Rider clinics and socials, so be sure to stop by with any questions about the program or just to say hello!
2018-2020 Area VII Young Rider Representative
Emmie is currently a sophomore at Tacoma Community College. From there she intends to transfer to UW-Tacoma to finish her bachelors degree. She lives in Lakebay, Washington and rides out of Grand Farms . She began eventing when she was 10 and has been a member of the Area Young Rider program for 3 years. She was a groom for the 2017 Area VII 2* team at NAJYRC . This year she finished the 2017 season completing the CCI 1* with her mare Mimi. Goals for Emmie in 2018 are to complete a CIC 2* and to try for the Area VII CICOY2* team at the NA Championships at Rebecca Farms in July. Emmie is at the majority of the shows in our Area, either riding, grooming or supporting friends so if you see her, do not hesitate to stop and chat, she can answer questions about the area VII program or is willing to lend a hand if you need help with something!
Area VII Young Riders would like to thank outgoing Young Rider Representative, Kristen Holderman, for her time in the position. Kristen was always a helping hand and a bright face for our program! This is her final year as a Young Rider (she turns 21 this year) so we thank her for all she has done for our program as well as wishing her much success in this last year with YRs. We hope to see Kristen in the future helping out with the program!
Qualifications for the Young Rider representative include actively competing in Prelim and above, and qualifications for the Junior Young Rider representative include actively competing Beginner Novice and above. Representatives end their two year terms with gaining experience in professional settings, learning how to balance many tasks and responsibilities while maintaining a positive upbeat sprit. These positions are very rewarding in the fact that they allow the Young Riders themselves to give back to the Eventing community and let them personally make a difference in our sport by being a leader.
