AREA VII YOUNG RIDERS NEWSLETTER
JANUARY 2010
Happy New Year to one and all!
The board members of the Area VII Young Rider program are excited for the year ahead and
are busy planning great clinics and summer camp for our Area VII Young Rider program.
Please watch for newsletters that will inform you about upcoming activities. We are also
working on getting the Young Rider website updated so you can access clinic and camp
registrations as they are available.
Don't forget to renew your 2010 Young Rider membership and your USEA membership at
www.useventing.com to be able to stay involved with our great program. Members may be of any age to join.
Those that will benefit most are those competing at recognized events at the Beginning Novice and above
levels.
Here’s our

Saturday, January 23rd – The annual USEA Area VII Meeting in Gig Harbor. This conference will include
great educational seminars from presenters such as Dr. Mark Revenaugh and dressage judge Janis Linnan. Janis

and special activities and meetings for Area VII Young Riders, including an overview of the year ahead. This
year we have reserved a room where the Young Riders can hang out and have snacks and get to know one
another. Registration for the meeting is still open, so come join us for the day! More information and the
registration form can be found at www.areavii.org Please send 2009 Young Rider photos to Jay Benge,

time with the vet, whether you are competing there or not. NAJYRC will be held once again this summer at
the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park,
July 28th – August 1st.
Congratulations!
Hearty congratulations to Area VII Young Rider Lizzie Snow for USEA Junior Preliminary Rider of the Year!
Lizzie was awarded for her accomplishments at the annual USEA meeting in Reston, VA in December. This
award designates Lizzie as the top junior preliminary rider in the entire United States. Way to go Lizzie!!!
Congratulations are due also to Area VII Young Rider Mackenna Shea for being asked to be a part of the West
Coast Developing Rider program in California in February. Mackenna will have the opportunity to ride with
USEA coach, Captain Mark Phillips. This is a huge honor! Woo Hoo Mackenna!
Other News:
The USEF just announce a High School Varsity Letter program for High School Equestrians. Information on
this program and requirements can be found at www.usef.org. This is a great opportunity for high school
equestrians to be recognized for their hard work!
It is not too early to begin searching for sponsors for our Area VII Young Rider program. We need money to
help support camps, clinics and especially team events such as NAJYRC in Kentucky. Please start thinking and
asking potential donors to consider a donation to our program. NAJYRC riders should try and get at least
$500.00 in sponsorship money. We are nonprofit organization and gifts are tax deductible. Forms will be
available on our website in February. We will also need auction items for our annual YR auction held each year
at our horse trials. We can’t make all of these activities happen without our generous sponsors!
