2012 North American Junior and Young Rider Championships

In 2012, the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships will be held once again at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. The event dates are July 18-22, 2012.

All Area VII Young Riders interested in representing our Area at either the One Star or the Two Star competition must turn in a letter of intent to the Area VII coordinator by February 15th. This letter or email should include qualifications to date and a plan for the upcoming show season. Please include contact information for yourself and your trainer. Send to: pipercheney@comcast.net no later than February 15th for consideration at the 2011 NAJYRC.

Current Young Rider members who are interested in grooming at NAJYRC should send an email outlining their horse management and grooming experience to Piper by April 1st. The letter should also include birth date and two reference contacts. The number of grooms that will attend NAJYRC depends on the number of riders attending an may change until the actual departure day. Age, experience, stamina, work ethic and sportsmanship are all criteria for being chosen to be a groom at NAJYRC. As any past groom will testify, the days are long but the rewards are worth it.


2011 – North American Young Rider Championships

Two Star rider Lizzie Snow and One Star rider Florence Miller were the 2011 competitors at NAJYRC from the Area VII YR program. While neither rider brought home a ribbon this year both riders were great representatives of the Area VII Young Rider program and exhibited wonderful sportsmanship. Assisting the riders were grooms, Ashlynn Meuchel and Kelly Lynch. We also were luck to be able to send two riders to the mentorship program at NAJYRC, Maria Schatz and Brynn Meuchel. Vet Mitch Byrd was there to support the horses and Jonathan Elliott provided the coaching support.


2010 NAJYRC

2010 North American Junior Young Rider Championships was held July 27th--August 1 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Area VII was again a contender in both the One Star and Two Star. Riding at the One Star for Area VII for the second time was Lizzie Snow. Lizzie and Pop Star finished third individually and were a part of the winning Gold Medal Team. Lizzie and Pop were a great team! In the Two Star division Area VII was represented by Tessa Beckett. Tessa and her horse Sound Prospect finished fourth individually and also received the Team Bronze.

Area VII riders were supported by grooms, Sarah Clancy and Hanna Roberts who worked tirelessly to help both horse and rider. Our vet, Mitch Byrd, did a fabulous job at his first NAJYRC and coach Jonathan Elliott was strong support to the riders, grooms and horses.

We are very proud of the group of Young Riders who represented Area VII. The team work was impressive to see and their representation of Area VII was something to be modeled. Job well done!
